DESCRIPTION: DESCRIPTION \nJoin renowned paleoanthropologist Dr. Donald Johanson and New York Times science journalist Carl Zimmer on the 50th anniversary of a major milestone in paleoanthropology—Johanson's discovery of "Lucy," one of the oldest known skeletons of an early human ancestor.\n\nDiscovered in Ethiopia's Afar region in 1974, Lucy is about 3.2 million years old. Though similar in size to a chimpanzee, her bone structure showed she walked upright — a key development in human evolution. Lucy's discovery by Dr. Johanson attracted worldwide attention. Join Johanson and Carl Zimmer as they discuss why her discovery remains significant for understanding human evolution, what Lucy has revealed about our origins, the circumstances surrounding her unearthing, and why she continues to captivate us.\nGENERAL INFORMATION\nThis is a paid one-off program taking place in-person at the Center for Modern Aging.
