COURSE DESCRIPTION
The two men inhabit two books. In The Summer Isles Philip Marsden sets sail in a wooden sloop to travel alone up the northwest coast of Ireland to the remote Summer Isles in northern Scotland. He writes of the beauty and challenges of solo sailing, the people who live along this wild coast, and his own discoveries and insights. Robert L. Harris takes a summer job as a warden and guide on the island of Skellig Michael, a rocky outcrop in the North Sea ninety minutes from the Irish mainland. Much of the time he is the only person on Skellig Michael. In Returning Light he writes about his life on this ancient island, the eighth century monks who once inhabited it whose beehive huts still stand, and the rugged wild beauty of this remote world.

COURSE LEADER
Lynne Cullinane has taught many courses for Evergreen Forum. All of them have been works of fiction. This time both books are nonfiction accounts written by the two men of the course title.
