COURSE DESCRIPTION
This class will examine the social and economic shifts in early nineteenth century America that supported the development of American Impressionist art. In particular, the class will focus on the works of three painters in the Bucks County School whose work exemplifies a reinterpretation of French Impressionism with a decided American emphasis. Works by Edward Redfield, John Folinsbee and Daniel Garber will be examined. An optional field trip to the James A. Mitchener Museum, Doylestown Pennsylvania may be offered.

COURSE LEADER
Dr. Christina Kales holds a doctor of literature in humanities from Drew University. Her doctoral dissertation examined several frequently held myths regarding the artists known as Impressionists.
