DESCRIPTION

NJ passed the Medical Aid in Dying (MAiD) law in 2019, making NJ the 11th state where medically assisted dying is legal. However, even 5 years after the law passed, many people (and even health professionals) are surprised to know that MAiD is legal in NJ. We will explain what the requirements are to qualify for MAiD, will discuss in details the steps one must take to access MAiD, and will further discuss why patients with terminal illnesses might choose MAiD as an option. We also explore how MAiD practitioners work with hospice, how MaiD varies from standard hospice care, how to find a participating doctor, and explain that there are varying practice models for MAiD.

Presenters: Robin Plumer and Elizabeth Stanton
