DESCRIPTION
Did you know that approximately 45% of dementia cases are preventable with lifestyle changes? Using Your Wits is a 7 part series on the various components contributing to good brain health and dementia prevention. Key topics include the importance of sleep, nutrition, cognitive fitness, memory, and concludes with a special 2 hour session on music and the brain. Each part of UYW is interactive and includes group brain fitness.
Participants may enroll in the full series or register for individual sessions. Each session stands on its own while also contributing to the overall program

REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Participants may register for individual sessions at $5 each or ALL of our workshop sessions for a discount of $30 for the full series.
- To register for all seven sessions, complete the registration process by selecting the ticket option "Register me for the full series - IN-PERSON". Once you have selected this option, you can scroll past the individual program dropdown options to the payment portion. Please do NOT register for each individual program through the dropdown section as you will be charged twice.
- To register for individual sessions, select the ticket option: "I'll select individual sessions from the list below." and then proceded to selecting which of the sessions you would like to register for. You will need to sign up for each one individually.
WEEKLY SESSIONS
May 14 2:00-3:00 pm | Cognitive Skill
In Part 1 you will learn about each cognitive skill, its importance in overall brain function and the lifestyle changes we can employ to keep our minds as sharp as possible. We will explore the McCance Brain Care Score and all our brain skills will be challenged with fun, interactive cognitive fitness exercises.
May 21 2:00-3:00 pm | The Brain's Anatomy
Part 2 provides an overview of our cognitive skills and goes into greater detail about our brain's anatomy and where each skill resides in the brain. We will stimulate our minds with fun and interactive cognitive fitness, including visual illusions and will discuss games that you can play to improve your memory.
May 28 2:00-3:00 pm | Nutrition of the Mind - You Are What You Eat, From Your Brain To Your Feet
Part 3 will provide information on brain nutrition and what foods to eat for optimum brain health. We will sample some of these brain foods and finish with food related cognitive fitness exercises hitting on all our brain skills to feel them hard at work.
June 4 2:00-3:00 pm | Optimizing Your Memory- Tips & Tricks to Help Remember
Part 4 provides a greater emphasis on memory. We will explore mnemonic devices, the tips and tricks we can use to help us remember things more easily, in greater detail and will finish with some cognitive fitness exercises to give our brains a good work out.
June 11 2:00-3:00 pm | What Dreams May Come- Even The Greatest of Minds Need a Well-Deserved Rest
Part 5 delves into the importance that sleep plays for good brain health. We'll discuss the correlation between sleep and dementia, the reasons why we often don't sleep well and how to promote quality sleep. The different stages and chronotypes of sleep will also be discussed and we'll engage our brains with some interactive and stimulating brain fitness.
June 18 2:00-3:00 pm | Alzheimer's and Dementia - Noticing the Signs, and Early Preventive Care
Part 6 takes a deeper dive into Alzheimer's disease and dementia including facts, risks, warning signs, and prevention. We will exercise each of our brain skills with a plethora of brain boosting exercises.
June 25 2:00-4:00 pm | Melodies That Matter - Music, Memory, and the Mind
Part 7 (a special 2 hour program) explores the strong connection between music and the brain. We will learn how participating in music related activities enriches your brain, prevents cognitive decline, and can even wake up the brain of someone in the deep throes of dementia. Finally, we will engage our minds by playing Name That Tune and musical trivia and will participate in a special musical experience and giveaway (details to follow).
