Program Details

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Dr. Roy Carman will present a colorful cast of characters (history) that gradually demystified the causes of disease and discovered effective treatments from ancient times to the present. Dr. Seth Malin will offer commentary on the assigned reading (literature) of the week, after which there will be discussion. Among the themes to be covered are authority, informed consent, truth in medical research, medical ethics and more.

COURSE LEADER
Dr. Roy Carman is a retired gastroenterologist. He has taught the history of medicine to medical students. Dr. Seth Malin is a retired general surgeon who takes refuge in good literature and music. They have taught two previous Evergreen Forum courses: Medicine, the History and the Mystery and Visions of America.

· Up to the start of the second week of an Evergreen Forum Course — refunds will be issued minus a $25 processing fee
· No refund will be offered after the second week of class.
· There will be a $25 processing fee for refunds to those who register for the same program more than once
