COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this lively discussion course honoring 250 years of immigration to the U.S., we will discuss three novels and a collection of short stories with different takes on the immigrant experience of the young: "American Dervish" by Ayad Aktar from Pakistan, "Transcendent Kingdom" by Yaa Gyasi from Ghana, "On Earth We Are Briefly Gorgeous" by Ocean Vong from Vietnam, and "Interpreter of Maladies" by Jhumpa Lahiri, from India.

COURSE LEADER
Lois Marie Harrod's twentieth collection of poetry, "The Bed the Size of a Small Country," will be published by Kelsay Press, Fall 2025.
