2026 SYMPOSIUM ON AGEISM:
Confronting Bias. Advancing Care. Empowering Choice.

This event features breakout workshops on aging and ageism, along with valuable networking opportunities. It is designed for individuals who are aging, professionals working within the aging sector, and advocates supporting the aging community.

Building on the success of CMAP's inaugural symposium last year, this year's program examines the intersection of ageism, cognitive health, communication, and person-centered care. Participants will examine current research, clinical practice, and lived experience while gaining practical tools to challenge societal narratives about aging and support informed, person-centered decision-making.

Author Ashton Applewhite will deliver the opening keynote, drawing on her work exploring the impact of age bias and offering strategies for building more inclusive, age-integrated communities. The day's programming will also feature presentations and interactive sessions from leaders in aging, health care, and academia. Clinical neuropsychologist Dr. Alison Tverdov will share insights into neuropsychological testing, helping address the stigma surrounding cognitive changes by helping attendees understand how assessments can guide treatment planning and provide a clearer path forward. Sophia Millman, whose work at Princeton University has encouraged students to reconsider how they think, speak, and write about the life course, will also be among the featured presenters.

The symposium will feature additional expert presentations and opportunities for discussion throughout the day, culminating in a panel discussion and closing reflections featuring symposium speakers. Additional program details will be announced as the agenda is finalized.
